Dr. Nwaopara Adolphus Uche, 39, was convicted to two years in prison by the Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Eket for stealing beds from Immanuel General Hospital Eket and Immanuel Psychiatric Hospital.
The hospital beds were reportedly shifted to the private clinic of Adolphus, a native of Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
Justice Nsemeke Daniel, who presided over the trial, stated that the accused committed the crime while serving as Medical Superintendent of Immanuel Psychiatric Hospital.
Felix Samuel Ekwere, 35, a security guard at Immanuel General Hospital, from Ekpene Obo in Esit Eket, who was caught moving out some of the stolen hospital beds at night, and Kubiat Anthony Isidore, 28, a wielder from Ikot Idim in Odoro Ikot, Essien Udim Local Government Area, who conspired with the doctor, were both convicted and sentenced to one year in prison.
As revealed by the police, Ekwere admitted that the guilty Medical Superintendent had dispatched him.
The state’s Ministry of Justice conducted the prosecution.
