Achonu of the Labour Party in Imo Guber demands the cancellation of the results after an agent was beaten by thugs

Labour Party (LP) Imo State governor candidate Athan Achonu demanded on Saturday that results from certain voting units be voided due to anomalies.

While visiting his birthplace of Umulumo in the Ehime Mbano council area of Imo, the Senator made the announcement to local journalists.

Agents from his party, he claims, came back with troubling tales of vote buying and the theft of ballot boxes and other electoral materials.

He also said that the LP has formally written to INEC, Nigeria’s electoral board, requesting that the results from the impacted areas be voided.

Vote rigging, intimidation of voters, and other irregularities were commonplace in some areas of Ideato.

This cannot stand. We have already written to INEC to take proper actions to guarantee that false results are not uploaded,” he said.

While praising the military for intervening to restore order in some regions, Achonu lamented the “absence of security personnel in certain places around Orlu and Orsu.”

When asked about the election-day attack on his Party’s agent by thugs, he said:

Naturally, they’ll have to postpone the event given the location.

“There is no other alternative than to cancel it so that every individual will come there and witness it conducted.

They have beaten up so many of our agents. We’re going to share some of their photos online to commemorate our loss. What a ridiculous state our democracy has reached!

But we’re fighting back. You idiot, you can’t miss the presence of these humans, can you? It’s something they’re not going to tolerate. I hope that is the same thing going on elsewhere so that we can have true democracy and bring in excellent administration.”

However, Mrs. Emmanuella Opara, the Head of Voter Education at INEC, stated that the Commission had not yet received an official report on the alleged anomalies.
