Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has spoken out against Mikel Arteta’s decision to start David Raya in place of Aaron Ramsdale.
Arteta has started Raya in the previous two games, against Everton and PSV, in the Premier League and the Champions League, respectively.
The move has been met with criticism from both fans and experts.
It was a peculiar one, and Leno agrees.
He said to The Times, “As a manager, I would never change my goalkeeper to say, ‘Oh, today I need a goalkeeper good with his feet, or one good at crosses,’ or ‘Today I need a good shot-stopper because we play against Man City and they will have ten shots or something.'” Not me, at any rate.
