When President Bola Tinubu introduces the 2024 Appropriations Act bill, it would be given the greatest treatment possible, Philip Agbese, the Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, has told Nigerians.
After the Thursday inauguration of the House Standing Committee on Appropriations in Abuja, Agbese made the promise.
According to the BANKPAWA the committee, led by Hon. Bichi Kabir Abubakar, reviews appropriation bills in order to control the Federal Government’s expected spending of money.
Agbese restated the House’s commitment to the Financial Year Act by promising to adopt the budget by December 31.
This, he claims, is the only way to guarantee the budget is followed from New Year’s Day through Christmas.
He added that the committee’s function is not limited to appropriating funds, promising that the Bichi-led group would closely oversee implementation across all ministries, departments, and agencies.
The House Appropriations Committee has been officially established and is ready to go. The people of Nigeria deserve the finest.
We are convinced that the House will give the Appropriation Act its closest scrutiny, and that Bichi will carry out its provisions with the utmost care. To have the backing of Nigerians is all we can ask for,” he remarked.
On Monday, the government revealed that it expects to spend N26.01tn for the fiscal year 2024, as reported by BANKPAWA
