On the weekend, Senate President Godswill Akpabio paid a visit to the home of Vanguard Newspapers’ Assistant Political Editor Henry Umoru to express his condolences for the loss of Umoru’s wife and mother.

Within 24 hours of one other on September 26 and 27, 2023, Umoru lost both his mother, Mrs. Celestina Ogbakhena Aboda, and his wife, Mrs. Bridget Umoru.

The Senate President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, led the group that visited the family and urged them to keep their faith in God despite the tragedy that had befallen them.

Henry, I know that you and your daughter Emmanuella, who is a teenager, will have a hard time accepting the reality that Bridget and Mama left at the same time. However, God, the ultimate architect of our life, is always right.

I want you to know that you and your family have the support of the whole Nigerian Senate. Keep your faith in God and don’t let go.

Mama and Bridget have simply joined the rest of the body in the great beyond. The Almighty God, please pardon their sins and let them rest in peace.

I pray that God would comfort you, your daughter, and your entire family during this trying time. Keep your chin up; the Lord is on your side. Please accept my deepest sympathies,” Akpabio said.

Jackson Udom, Special Assistant Media(Print) to the Senate President, and Sanni Onogu, Vice Chairman of the Senate Press Corps, both from the Nation Newspapers, accompanied Eyiboh on the condolence visit.

Sunday Aborisade of Thisday Newspapers, Bosede Adebayo, and Philip Nyam also participated as members of the delegation.

Umoru responded by thanking the Senate President for coming to see him and his family during their time of grief.

He said the death of their mother and wife had shocked the family, but they have found comfort in the knowledge that they are now in God’s loving arms.

I’d want to express my gratitude to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and to thank him on behalf of my family for coming to comfort us after the loss of my wife and mother.

Saying, “I am honoured and thank you for this great honour,” Umoru expressed his gratitude for the recognition.
