Alex Ferguson disses Man Utd, lists rivals as the best team

When asked which team he saw the most promise in during the Premier League’s opening weekend, former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson unexpectedly chose Aston Villa.

If you remember, Aston Villa lost 5-1 to Newcastle United at St. James’s Park last weekend, dropping them to last place in the Premier League standings following the first round of games.

Despite the final score, Ferguson was quite pleased with what he saw from Aston Villa and believed Unai Emery’s squad was unlucky to come out on the losing end of the match.

Ferguson told NBC Sports, “To be honest with you, I watched Aston Villa against Newcastle, and I can’t believe the scoreline.”

“To be quite forthright, Aston Villa played magnificent football and lost due to two poor goals.

Since Eddie Howe has done such a fantastic job as manager, Newcastle will be extremely tough to defeat at home.

Football, though, is a strange sport. This is exactly what occurred to Aston Villa; they played the opposition off the field but were unable to score.
