Maduabuchi Idam, a human rights advocate, has requested that senators’ enjoyment allowance funds be made public by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Idam has threatened to take Akpabio to a Federal High Court unless he comes clean within the next week.
The constitutional attorney stated that he took this course of action because to the widespread poverty and lack of resources in Nigeria.
To the press and the public, Idam has issued the following statement:
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOI), 2011, I, Maduabuchi O. Idam, have written to the President of the Senate on this 11th day of August 2023, requesting, among other things, specifics on the amount and origin of the funds that were disclosed by the President of the Senate to have been sent to serving Senators for enjoyment during their holiday.
The Senate President is obligated to provide me with the requested information within seven (7) days, per the relevant sections of the FOI.
If that doesn’t happen, I’ll exercise my legal right to go to the Federal High Court to get the documents unsealed under the Act.
“It is unreasonable for our leaders to embark on an enjoyable holiday at the expense of the taxpayers,” I said, justifying what I did because “Nigerians as a people are currently plagued by hardship and scarce resources.”
