On Monday, Augustine Danbaba Umar, the Labour Party’s House of Representatives candidate for the Kachia/Kagarko federal constituency, had his petition to invalidate the election of David Umaru Gurara, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, dismissed by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kaduna.
The results of the February 25, 2023 election were announced, and Gurara was re-elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Umar, dissatisfied with the results of the election, challenged Gurara’s victory in court.
However, in his ruling, Justice Chudi Nwankwor denied the petition and gave Gurara a cash prize of N500,000.
While facing queries from reporters, Samuel Atung, attorney for the respondent, said the tribunal had dismissed the petition submitted by the Labour Party candidate because it lacked merit.
