An investigation into a fraudulent acquisition of shares in Polaris Bank and Titan Bank (Union Bank) has apparently led to the arrest of Aisha Ahmad, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

As reported by Channels Television on Sunday, DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya refused to confirm or refute rumors that Ahmad is in jail or has been summoned for questioning.

Meanwhile, Aisha is reportedly being questioned over Titan Bank’s alleged 2022 acquisition of Union Bank, for which the latter bank paid $300 million.

Afunaya commented on the situation, saying that anyone can be questioned as part of any investigation as long as it’s done legally.

About two months ago, Ahmad’s former boss at the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, was arrested by the secret agency. Since then, he has been in DSS custody.

On June 9, BANKPAWA reports, Godwin Emefiele was removed from his position as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
