Couple Who Bought a One-Month-Old Baby Arrested by Anambra Police (Details)

Couple Apprehended by Anambra State Police for Trafficking in a One-Month-Old Infant from Lagos

The authorities in Anambra State detained two people for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of a one-month-old infant from Lagos into Anambra.

It was revealed that the parents had paid N30,000 to get the kid. On their way into Anambra from Lagos, they were caught at Bridgehead, Onitsha, thanks to information provided by a watchful fellow traveler.

According to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the State Police Command, the interception took place at Bridgehead in Onitsha on December 17, 2023.

As he put it;

“A co-passenger noticed that the mother could not breastfeed the baby despite its cries for food while the couple was traveling in a luxury bus belonging to a popular transport company with the baby.”

“The concerned citizen called the Anambra Police Department’s Control Room hotline in Awka, and the police in Onitsha received the message through their lines.”

In the middle of the night, the cops waited for the luxury bus and seized it. After identifying the parents and the infant, authorities took them down for interrogation.

“They admitted to paying N30,000 to the mother in Ajah, Lagos, to purchase the child.”
