Dino Melaye, the PDP candidate for governor of Kogi State, has declared that his party’s loss in the election is not his fault because he did not cast a ballot.
Melaye finished far behind second-place finisher and eventual governor, Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former senator’s chances are said to have been hurt because he did not vote on Saturday.
Yet Dino counters that
It doesn’t matter if I vote or not because people have won elections while being locked up.
On Monday’s episode of Politics Today on Channels Television, he made the following comments:
The right or wrong to vote is not a matter of law. In prison, voters often prove victorious. There is no bearing on the election from a legal standpoint. It doesn’t matter if I voted or not.
