Nearly 2,484 people in Benue State who were fired under Governor Hyacinth Alia have written to the state administration, asking to be rehired within 30 days.
In order to avoid legal action, they requested that the State government restore them.
The dismissed employees, represented by S. E. Irabor, sent a notification to the Secretary of the Benue State Government claiming that they were legitimately employed by the State government from December 20, 2022, to March 31, 2023.
They said they were given official notices of employment and that they were able to do their tasks as planned without interference.
The impacted employees have also requested that they be paid back wages and benefits they were promised, citing the fact that they were hired lawfully.
They wanted the Benue State Government to approve their request for reinstatement rather than dragging it out in court.
You may recall that Governor Alia promptly fired all government employees who had been working for the state between May 2022 and March 2023.
