Jigawa State Governor Mallam Umar Namadi has launched a rice distribution program to help residents cope with the loss of gasoline subsidies.

Saturday, at the Dutse Local Government secretariat, the Governor officially kicked off the distribution.

Jigawa State government reportedly approved about N134m to buy five trucks of rice to supplement the federal government’s five trucks to soften the blow of the termination of the fuel subsidy, as reported by BANKPAWA

At the rally, the Governor explained that the free rice was just one of the government’s efforts to ease people’s suffering.

The aid packages will consist of bags of rice and cash for certain types of small business owners chosen at random from each of the State’s 27 local government areas (LGAs).

“This is just the beginning; many more comprehensive plans will be initiated in the near future,” he predicted.

So, he urged the population to be patient in the face of current difficulties, saying that they are part of a worldwide trend.
