Four illicit refineries in Ondo were destroyed by the navy

No less than four illicit refineries in Ondo State, valued at N20 million, were demolished on Wednesday by men of the Nigerian Navy at Forward Operating Base, FOB, Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The Awoye hamlet in the state’s Ilaje Local Government Area was the site of the destruction of the illicit refineries.

The locations of the illicit refineries were found using aerial surveillance, according to Navy Captain Wasuku Alushi, who is the commander of the base.

According to Alushi, the operation was part of a larger effort to reduce illicit operations along the coast of the state, including kidnapping, crude oil theft, and bunkering.

Remember how, two weeks ago, a special operation was conducted here by the Nigerian Navy forward operating base in Igbogoda? That was under the instruction of the Nigeria Flag Officer Commanding.

The most important thing is that we should spread our tentacles so that we can stop some of the illicit acts that happen in riverine areas, such as kidnapping, stealing crude oil, and illegal bunkering.

It is a complex web of illegal enterprises, therefore the terrain was challenging. There is stolen crude, as is evident. There are three parts to the plan. The primary objective should be to apprehend the criminals when they are taking the crude.

“Now that those illicit refineries are off the grid, we can crush any remnants of them—that should deter them from ever considering turning them back on.”
