After the recent kidnapping of students from the Federal University in Gusau, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State called for an urgent security meeting.
Students from the University were abducted from their off-campus housing in Sabo Gida village in Bungudu Local Government Area Friday night, prompting the Emergency Security Council meeting.
The governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, released a statement on Friday saying that the government is hoping the Emergency Security Council meeting would help them find a permanent solution to the growing security crisis.
He further mentioned that the Governor had ordered the Deputy Governor, Mani Mallam Mummuni, to provide the security forces all the help they needed to get things back to normal.
The security leaders promised the Deputy Governor that they would work to bring calm back to the State during the meeting. They also assured the Deputy Governor beyond any reasonable doubt that the liberated hostages numbered six.
The Security Chiefs further reassured the public that the military had successfully eliminated a large number of kidnappers and was aggressively searching for the rest to guarantee the swift and painless recovery of all hostages.
Mani Mallam Mummuni reportedly told the leaders of security agencies that more troops need to be stationed in dangerous locations to better monitor the situation.
Security operatives are working around the clock to solve the current crisis, as the Deputy Governor has told the people of Zamfara.
