Justice Margaret Igbetar, a former President of the Customary Court of Appeal, was killed by unknown assailants on Saturday, and on Saturday, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State strongly condemned her death.
The son of Igbetar, who had been missing since her murder earlier in the week by unidentified intruders, discovered her body on Thursday in their Makurdi home, as previously reported by BANKPAWA
Alia responded with concern about the event in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula.
The governor was perplexed as to why a citizen who had done her part for the development of the state in many roles to guarantee the safety of all citizens, especially the most vulnerable, would be brutally murdered.
Fr. Alia, who said he is still reeling from the news, has ordered the state’s security forces into high gear to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
He prayed for her soul and said the murder of Justice Igbetar was a tragedy for everyone involved: the law, the state, and society at large.
