In memoriam to Tribune Senate Correspondent Adeyemi, whom Akpabio eulogizes

Godswill Akpabio, president of the Senate, is devastated by the loss of Tribune Newspapers’ Senate Correspondent Alhaji Tijani Adeyemi.

On Thursday, October 5, 2023, the Senate President released a statement through his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, lamenting the loss of one of the nation’s wealthiest caretakers of the National Assembly’s institutional memory with Adeyemi’s passing.

In a letter to Alhaja Mamunat Adeyemi, the deceased senator’s wife, the Senate President reportedly wrote, “Though your husband and I were not particularly close, but my information is that he was very peaceable and gentle in all his dealings.”

He was one of the most well-respected journalists in the National Assembly, according to his peers, since he always did what he was supposed to do.

After covering the Fourth National Assembly from its inception, “I am informed that he qualifies to be so described as the doyen of the National Assembly Press Corp.”

Though he has worked in both broadcast and print media for a variety of outlets, it was his stellar track record covering legislation that led several of those outlets to assign him to the National Assembly.

His extensive flare in legislative reporting and institutional knowledge of the National Assembly will be sorely missed.

I ask God to bless you and your family with peace and strength on behalf of my esteemed coworkers.

I, too, will pray for his spirit to rest in the paradise of Aljannah Friddaus.
