The Senate has urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to call off their strike in the interest of the nation.
President Godswill Akpabio gave the order for the Senate’s leadership to start negotiations with union representatives right away in an effort to amicably resolve their demands.
The vote came after Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele introduced a motion during the plenary session headlined “The need for Labour to reconsider their industrial action in the interest of patriotism and for the rule of law and order.”
The Senate took this measure while the NLC and TUC were in talks with the federal government about the strike.
The unions declared a statewide indefinite strike after NLC President Joe Ajaero was attacked in Imo State.
