It’s a terrible, but Messi finally explains why he’s moving back to Europe and abandoning Inter Miami

Despite rumors to the contrary, Lionel Messi will not be leaving Inter Miami at the end of the MLS season to play for another team on loan.

Inter Miami will play their final regular season game this Saturday against Charlotte FC after missing out on the MLS postseason.

During the MLS offseason, there has been talk that Messi would go back to Europe on loan to maintain his match fitness.

When asked in December if he was considering playing for another club, Messi responded with a firm “No.”

It’s unfortunate [that we didn’t advance]. It was almost there. We had a lot of injuries and I had to miss the last four games. We played every three days in July and had a lot of travel to deal with. However, this victory at a major competition bodes well for the future of the team and the upcoming season.

I will practice, play in our next game [against Charlotte FC], and do everything I can to join the national team in November. After that, I plan to take advantage of the Argentinean holiday season. It’s the first time I’ll have more time off in December to celebrate the holidays, relax, and spend time with the people that mean the most to me. I’ll be back for preseason work in January. Always begin with a clean slate and make the most thorough preparations you can.
