Lineker predicts that Manchester United will lose McTominay to a rival team

In the upcoming transfer window, another team will attempt to recruit Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, according to former England international and club executive Gary Lineker.

Given his excellent play for Scotland’s national side, Lineker was surprised that manager Erik ten Hag wasn’t giving the international more playing time at Man United.

McTominay is now a lower-tier player for Man United under Ten Hag.

The 26-year-old midfielder has only seen action in two Premier League games so far this season, both of which were won with the help of substitutes, against Wolves and Nottingham Forest.

McTominay scored for Scotland in their recent win over Cyprus, making him the joint-top scorer in Euro 2024 qualifying, which stands in stark contrast to his lack of playing time at Man United.

“I notice Scott McTominay playing and getting in the box a lot,” Lineker said on The Rest Is Football podcast.

He’s already scored twice in this game. As a qualifier, he has a high score. It’s crazy, but Manchester United isn’t giving him much of a chance to play. In either the January transfer window or the following summer, someone will want to sign him.

McTominay has spent his whole professional career with Manchester United. He came up through the club’s youth system.
