Mesut Ozil, formerly of Arsenal, was impressed with Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and Andre Onana in their 1-0 Champions League win against Copenhagen on Tuesday.

On Tuesday at Old Trafford, Manchester United won for the first time in this year’s Champions League competition.

The Red Devils’ performance against Copenhagen was mediocre, although Maguire and Onana shone.

Maguire scored the game-winning goal for Erik ten Hag’s side off a fantastic cross from Christian Eriksen with a superb forceful header in the 72nd minute.

Scott McTominay, however, nearly undid all of his hard work in the 90th minute plus 5 seconds of the match.

In the dying seconds, McTominay conceded a penalty, piling the pressure on Man United’s lone remaining penalty taker, Onana.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper made a spectacular stop to prevent the visitors from stealing a point from the Premier League powerhouses.

Ozil tweeted via his X account after the game that he believes Onana and Maguire have answered their critics by playing well despite receiving harsh criticism in recent months.

Ozil said on Twitter, “Silencing their haters is exactly what Harry Maguire and Andre Onana need.”
