The Federal Government will back the flawed census, President Bola Tinubu has informed the National Population Commission (NPC).
This promise was made by the President on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, at the unveiling of the National Geospatial Data Repository, the Digital CRVS System, and the inauguration of the National Coordination Committee for CRVS.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of data to national growth while pushing for coordination between government ministries, departments, and agencies.
He urged census specialists to use state-of-the-art equipment to efficiently collect information about Nigeria’s people, saying the country could not afford to fall behind.
The President has stated that the citizens of Nigeria have much for which to be thankful given the country’s relative immunity to natural calamities.
Recall that the immediate prior administration of Muhammadu Buhari had granted the sum of N200 billion to the Population Commission to conduct a national census.
Despite the fact that a sizable portion of the budget was used by the agency during the preliminary stages of census collation, the exercise was delayed by the Federal Government due to other considerations.
Still to come…
