On the occasion of his 80th birthday, President Bola Tinubu praised Professor Ropo Sekoni, a renowned expert in the fields of semiotics and African literature.
Saturday, Aguri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media, released a statement in which he thanked Sekoni for his services to the reestablishment of democracy in Nigeria and to the advancement of human knowledge.
I’d like to use this opportunity to honor and congratulate my dear friend and colleague, Professor Ropo Sekoni, on the occasion of his 80th birthday. It’s a blessing from God to live to be 80 years old. I want to congratulate him and all of his loved ones on this momentous occasion.
After the election on June 12, 1993 was overturned, Professor Sekoni and I joined forces with other pro-democracy activists to vigorously advocate for the end of military rule and the restoration of democracy in our country. Professor Sekoni played a vital role in that fight. The President remarked, “He is also a sounding board and a vital support system for us in administration.
“We thank God that He has enabled Professor Sekoni to reach this significant age in good health, and we pray to the Munificient God that He will grant him more years to witness the new Nigeria we are building together, where peace, security, and prosperity shall reign supreme,” said one of Sekoni’s former students.
