Rejoicing follows the tribunal’s confirmation of Governor Mutfwang’s election

Jos, the capital of Plateau State, and its surrounding areas, are celebrating the confirmation of PDP’s Caleb Mutfwang as governor and the dismissal of the lawsuit brought by the APC’s Dr. Nentawe Yilwada.

BANKPAWA readers may recall that Nentawe had filed a petition with the Tribunal contesting the Independent National Electoral Commission’s proclamation of Mutfwang as Governor of the state.

Mutfwang received 525, 299 votes, which was enough to beat out his nearest competitor, Dr. Yiltwatda, who received 481, 370 votes.

Petitioners claimed that the PDP lacked a formal organization prior to the election, making it impossible for Mutfwang to be properly nominated and supported by the party.

On Friday, however, the Tribunal issued a ruling in which Justice Sunday Olurundahunsi found the Petition to be without merit and rejected it.

He said that on September 25, 2023, the PDP convened a legitimate state congress.

The question of a candidate’s nomination and sponsorship was likewise ruled to be a pre-election issue by the tribunal.

The excitement is comparable to that which greeted his announcement in March after INEC’s declaration.

Residents, party members, and supporters all agreed that the tribunal’s decision confirmed the people’s will.
