Release Nnamdi Kanu Now—IPOB Tells FG It’s Enough

The Indigenous People of Biafra have expressed their deep concern over the ongoing solitary imprisonment of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in the Department of State Service.

On Wednesday, the group made it clear that they considered Kanu’s arrest an infringement of his rights and a failure to comply with court decisions mandating his release.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the IPOB’s chief legal counsel, has publicly called on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release the group’s detained leader without delay.

In part, the statement said:

The Nigerian Constitution, the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on the Rights to Self-Determination, and other international treaties and conventions to which Nigeria is a party all guarantee Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s human rights, which the Nigerian State Security Service is currently violating. It is also a clear violation of the orders of competent courts.

The Nigerian government must immediately release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by its laws, customs, and court rulings. It is now or never!
