There are a number of scholarships available for international students who want to study in Germany. These scholarships can help you cover the cost of your tuition, living expenses, and other related costs. In this article, we have compiled a list of scholarships in Germany for international students for the 2023/24 academic year.

#1. Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarship

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung scholarship, which seeks to promote social democracy through academic financial assistance, is another option. Foreign applicants who are studying or doing their doctorate in Germany at a state or state-recognized university of applied sciences are eligible for the scholarship. These students are expected to perform academically above average. This is an excellent option for those interested in social sciences, politics, or the humanities.
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must have exceptional German language skills, even if your course is in English. Only 40 people per year from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe will be accepted into this funding program, so spots are limited.

#2. Erasmus Scholarship Programs in Germany

Erasmus is also a good option for international students who want to pursue a full-time education in Germany. Erasmus, an EU-wide grant funded by member states of the European Union, provides financial assistance for one-year exchange periods for international students at German universities.

You must be enrolled in a higher education institution and both your home university and the German university must have signed the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education in order to be eligible for the scholarship to Germany.

The Erasmus scheme is used by the majority of the EU’s major universities, with German universities participating in a variety of study programs funded by Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus+ scholarships. #3. Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships in Germany

The Heinrich Böll Foundation annually provides merit-based undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral scholarships to students worldwide and across all academic fields. These students should be studying at a state or state-recognized university in Germany. Scholarship recipients are expected to have excellent academic records, to be politically and socially engaged, and to have a strong interest in values such as ecology, sustainability, democracy, human rights, self-determination, and justice.

In addition to individual allowances, non-EU Masters students will receive 850€ each month (tuition fees might be possible).EU students at the same level of study will receive 649€ per month plus 300€ in book money.

It is granted for the regular study period, with the option of extending it by one semester.On the other hand, phD students from outside the EU will receive 1,200€ per month, in addition to a monthly mobility allowance of 100€ and other individual allowances (excluding tuition fees).

Ph.D. students from the EU will be paid 1,350€ per month, plus a research costs allowance of 100€. (excluding tuition fees). The scholarship is for two years, with the option of extending it twice by half a year.

#4. DAAD Scholarship Programs

Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) is a joint organization of Germany’s higher education institutions responsible for promoting international academic relations. They focus on student, academic, and researcher exchange by providing scholarships and funding to international students, graduate students, and scientists in Germany.

The DAAD scholarships are given to students who want to pursue a degree in a full-time course of study. Applicants must have completed their Bachelor’s degree within the last six years and have at least two years of proven work experience. The DAAD scholarship provides a monthly stipend of 850€ for postgraduate students and 1,200€ for doctoral students.

Students with above-average academic achievements and a strong interest in politics may apply for the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarship. This scholarship program seeks to encourage international students and doctoral candidates who have completed their undergraduate studies in their home country.

This scholarship is available to postgraduate, doctorate, or research students. Priority will be given to PhD students from developing countries or countries undergoing political transformation.

Master’s and postgraduate students will receive 850€ per month for two years. Doctoral candidates and those coming to Germany for research will be paid a monthly stipend of 1,100€ for three years.

Tuition fees of up to 500€ per semester may be reimbursed (only courses related to the study/doctoral project). Intercultural dialogues and international networks are promoted through these scholarships in order to strengthen ties between home countries and the Federal Republic of Germany.

#6. DeutschlandStipendium National Scholarship Programme

The Deutschlandstipendium provides financial assistance to students from all over the world who are ambitious and academically outstanding. It provides financial assistance to students at all participating universities in Germany, regardless of nationality or personal or parental income. The scholarship is made possible through a public-private partnership in which businesses, foundations, or individuals sponsor students for 150€ per month, with the Federal Government matching that amount. Because universities award this scholarship, applicants must meet the requirements of each institution.

The scholarship is granted for two semesters, but it may also be valid for the duration of the standard study period. After two semesters, the university evaluates whether the student still meets the scholarship criteria for private funding to continue.
