There is traffic on major routes in Abuja as a result of increased checks by security agents ahead of today’s verdict by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
According to the BANKPAWA traffic jams formed on all of the major thoroughfares leading into the Abuja metropolitan area.
The Kubwa, Dutse, Lugbe, and Apo expressways, as well as the Nyanya-Mararaba highway, are among the impacted routes.
In response to the tribunal’s ruling, the police, the army, and other agencies in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) set up checkpoints along important roadways on Wednesday morning.
Security personnel implemented’stop and search’ procedures, which slowed traffic and contributed to backups on main thoroughfares.
Hundreds of vehicles trying to enter the Abuja metropolitan area are currently backed up for miles.
Those in cars and on foot range from laborers and businesspeople on their way to work to those simply going about their day.
The security services have increased protection to prevent a collapse of law and order as a result of the verdict, thus the bottleneck is expected to linger all day.
According to a story in BANKPAWA the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, issued a statement on Tuesday, September 5th, warning against any attempts to disrupt the sessions of the presidential tribunal.
Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi delivered the statement on behalf of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
The ruling has resulted in increased security measures being implemented around the country, the statement said.
The Nigeria Police Force has increased its deployment across the country ahead of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Judgment, which is set to be passed on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. This is done in an effort to fortify security architecture and prevent a breakdown of law and order across the country.
Furthermore, the NPF strongly warns everyone, from troublemakers to political gladiators, to watch their words and deeds because the Force will not tolerate anything that could lead to violence or chaos.
For the sake of peace and safety, it is essential that all citizens, regardless of their political leanings, practice tolerance and restraint.
