On Monday, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), assured the public that the army and other security services will succeed in resolving the country’s present security issues.

At the opening ceremony for the brand new 8 Division Nigerian Army Sokoto Headquarters, Lagbaja made the promise.

I’ll be the first to say that there have been some bumps in national security, but the troops have been rising to the occasion all around the country.

“We will continue to do all that is within our power to combat every security challenge confronting the country and meet the expectations of the country in providing a secure environment for economic activities to thrive,” he added.

He urged his countrymen to help the military fight criminals by providing them with useful intelligence.

According to Lagbaja, the purpose of building army formations is to position troops in closer proximity to the populace so that they can respond more quickly and efficiently to security threats.

He went on to say that the new barracks would make it easier to enforce order and coordinate responses to security threats.
