Senator Diket Plang, who heads the Senate’s Committee on Employment and Productivity, wants to see a mining university founded in Jos, Plateau State.
In an interview with the Jos branch of the Nigerian Institute of Mining and Geo-Science on Tuesday, Plang made the request.
He claimed responsibility for a bill to terminate the Institute of Mining’s enabling legislation.
In the 10th National Assembly, Plang, who represents Plateau Central, argued that the creation of Mining University will facilitate further economic change.
If the university is built, its graduates would be able to give technical services in all areas of mining engineering and its linked courses, and the Nigerian economy will undergo a quick transition. He reasoned that Jos was a good location because of the rich mineral resources of nearby Plateau State.
