A former senator named Shehu Sani has publicly stated his support for allowing armed FRSC officers.
On the other hand, he believed that only people who traveled on federal routes outside of the city should be armed.
In light of the widespread security threats facing the country, the Federal Road Safety Corps has repeatedly stressed the importance of armed soldiers in doing their tasks.
While inaugurating 1,762 corps personnel who have just completed their four-month introduction training at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kontagora, Niger, Corps Marshal Dauda Biu made this call.
Shehu Zaki, a Deputy Corps Marshal, spoke on behalf of Biu, who stated that the measure would provide sufficient safety for the personnel who are frequently attacked while on duty by some road users or suspected criminals who take advantage of the security issues in the country.
I support that Federal Road Safety Corps should bear arms,” the ex-Senator for Kaduna central district posted on X in response.
“But only for those working on federal highways outside the cities,” he said.
