Rep. Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House, has stated that preventative measures are being taken to curb the current rash of terrorist acts around the country.
In a statement released in Abuja on Saturday, Mr. Musa Krishi, the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, made the announcement.
Amb. Ahmed Bamalli claims that Abbas made the promise during a visit of condolence to the residence of the Emir of Zazzau.
According to Krishi, the visit was prompted by the Zaria Central Mosque collapse on August 11 during the Asr prayer, which left several people dead and dozens more injured.
He added that the August 12 bandit attack in the Kofar Gayan neighborhood of Zaria was another motivation for the trip.
According to Krishi, the Speaker was saddened by the tragic events and reassured the government and citizens of the Zazzau Emirate that the House has taken steps to prevent a repetition.
He claims that Abbas promised the Emir that the military would set up a defensive perimeter around certain hotspots in Zaria and the surrounding area.
He further reported that Abbas had said, “I want to assure you that based on the way banditry wants to return, we in the House have taken some measures.”
We’ve opened fire on the military, and now they’re on their way to set up camp near the Kofar Gayan girls’ school. They promised us they would follow through on it.
I also want to reassure you that I am prepared to help to the reconstruction of the mosque as a native son of the land and a kingmaker in this palace.
Please notify me when the time comes to restore this sacred building so that I may do my part.
Please accept our sincere gratitude for the privilege of sharing our sorrow with you today. (NAN)
