Simon Bako Lalong, Nigeria’s Minister of Labor and Employment, has requested a meeting with the NLC’s top officials on Monday, September 18, 2023. This meeting will be held at the Department of Trade Unions Services and Industrial Relations.
BANKPAWA recounts that on September 5 and 6, the minister invited the two labor bodies for discussions to prevent the two-day strike, but only the TUC showed up.
The ministry’s director of press and public relations, Olajide Oshundun, issued a statement on Sunday urging the unions to negotiate with the government to settle all outstanding issues and prevent additional economic hardship.
The minister has stated that in order to preserve industrial harmony, which is crucial to the attainment of the Renewed Hope Agenda, the administration of President Bola Tinubu will always engage organized labor and respond to its concerns after due engagement and talks.
