On Friday, Chief Ayiri Emami, the Ologbotsere of Warri Kingdom, claimed that President Bola Tinubu had told him that the interests of the Itsekiri people would be protected.

During the celebration of his sixth year as Ologbotsere of the Warri Kingdom, Emami revealed this in a conversation with newsmen at his home in the Ubeji Community in Delta State.

Aside from the ports at Koko and Warri, he also mentioned roads and projects in Itsekiri country, saying that Tinubu had guaranteed him that these issues would be dealt with directly the few times he had to discuss them with the President.

You are familiar with my superior. My dad, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is also the patriarch of our country. He has recently taken office and is already facing a number of challenges.

But throughout the little time that we spoke, I avoided talking about anything that was merely of interest to myself. He informed me he would look into the concerns I raised, which relate to the best interests of the Itsekiri nation.

When it comes to Itsekiri, I don’t stray from that path.

In addition, Emami stated that he had no interest in holding a government position under Tinubu’s leadership.

I don’t see myself as a minister. Neither do I wish to serve on any sort of board.

He promised to keep fighting for Itsekiri rights at the federal level.

If I go, it will be for Itsekiri’s sake first and foremost. What effect it has on our ports and roads, on the progress of the Itsekiri people, and on the natural world.”
