Israeli airstrikes on Hamas militants have displaced 264,000 Palestinians, according to the UN’s humanitarian relief agency.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), they are taking refuge in schools with friends and family.
At least 1,200 Israelis were killed and another 100 were kidnapped on Saturday in an attack on Gaza and Israel orchestrated by the Islamist group Hamas, which administers the Gaza Strip.
Israel retaliated by launching continuous airstrikes at the highly populated strip of land on the shoreline.
Health experts in Gaza estimate that at least 900 individuals have lost their lives.
Several Gaza City apartment complexes were reportedly hit by Israeli airstrikes, as reported by OCHA.
More than 1,500 homes were either completely destroyed or badly damaged, according to OCHA, which cited the Gaza Strip’s Ministry of Public Works and Housing.
In addition, five water and sanitation facilities serving 500,000 people were destroyed or severely damaged.
The Palestinian territories are home to about two million people.
