IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has issued an order for an additional 220 operational vehicles to be sent to the three states holding polls this weekend. These vehicles include water cannons, armored personnel carriers, helmets, bulletproof vests, and tear gas canisters.
For the upcoming off-cycle gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States on November 11, 2023, the distribution of these cars was announced by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The statement went on to say that the IGP had organized training sessions for police officers managing election security and had requested federal approval for their allowances and other necessary support to boost morale during operations in advance of the upcoming elections.
As the police and other security agencies have been put on high alert to prevent any unruly acts from disrupting the elections in any of the three states, the IGP has urged all stakeholders in the three states to embrace peace, uphold the sanctity of the rule of law, and be law-abiding before, during, and after the elections.
