BANKPAWA has profiled Olayemi Michael Cardoso, the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, after his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday.
After Godwin Emefiele’s suspension on June 9, Folashodun Shonubi stepped into an acting role until his replacement by Cardoso.
PROFILE
Mr. Cardoso is a native of Lagos State and a graduate of Harvard University’s Master of Public Administration and Management program.
After the transition to civilian democracy in 1999, when Tinubu was governor of Lagos State, he was appointed as the state’s first commissioner for economic planning and budget.
Cardoso was a professional banker who has held positions as Vice President at Citibank and executive director at Citizens International Bank, among other institutions.
Cardoso was a member of the board of directors at MRS Oil Nigeria PLC and the managing partner of FBC Associates Limited.
